3.2.1    MISSING AUTHENTICATION FOR CRITICAL FUNCTION CWE-306

The affected product is missing authentication, which could allow an attacker with access to Port 135/TCP to read and modify the device configuration and obtain project files from the devices.

CVE-2020-7589 has been assigned to this vulnerability. A CVSS v3 base score of 9.4 has been calculated; the CVSS vector string is (AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:L).

Alexander Perez-Palma of Cisco Talos and Emanuel Almeida of Cisco Systems reported this vulnerability to Siemens.

4. MITIGATIONS

Siemens recommends applying defense-in-depth concepts, including the protection concept outlined in the system manual.

Siemens recommends following their general security recommendations. As a general security measure, Siemens strongly recommends protecting network access to devices with appropriate mechanisms. In order to operate the devices in a protected IT environment, Siemens recommends configuring the environment according to the Siemens operational guidelines for Industrial Security and following the recommendations in the product manuals.
