3.2.1    IMPROPER PRIVILEGE MANAGEMENT CWE-269

Authenticated, non-administrative users could modify their privileges by manipulating the user role under certain circumstances, allowing them to gain administrative privileges.

CVE-2021-27394 has been assigned to this vulnerability. A CVSS v3 base score of 8.1 has been calculated; the CVSS vector string is (AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:N).

FlowFabric BV reported this vulnerability to Siemens.

4. MITIGATIONS

Mendix has released an update for Mendix and recommends updating to the latest version. In SSA-875726, Siemens lists the following remediations:

As a general security measure, Siemens strongly recommends protecting network access to devices with appropriate mechanisms. In order to operate the devices in a protected IT environment, Siemens recommends configuring the environment according to Siemens’ operational guidelines for industrial security, and following the recommendations in the product manuals.
